A Condé Nast Traveller editor overcame her fear of flying through Ted's Pilot led Hypnotherapy approach.

If you’re struggling with a fear of flying, you’re not alone, and you’re in the right place.

With a unique dual background as an Airline Pilot and Solution Focused Hypnotherapist, I offer a calm, supportive, and evidence based approach to helping you overcome your fear of flying.

Drawing on thousands of hours flying all over the world, I’ll guide you through the realities of aviation, explaining everything from take off’s and landings to turbulence, engines and everything in between. My aim is to demystify flying and give you the understanding most passengers never receive.

Alongside this aviation expertise, I use powerful therapeutic approaches including Clinical Hypnosis, Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Together, these techniques reframe anxious thought patterns at a subconscious level, helping you feel calm, in control, and safe.

Whether your fear comes from past experiences, uncertainty about how flying works, or simply the feeling of being out of control, my approach is designed to move you from fear to freedom so you can travel with genuine confidence.

Why Facts Alone Don’t Calm Fear

I have met many passengers who only ask for reassurance once they are already on the aircraft. By then, their body is often in fight or flight. The racing heart, the quick breathing and the feeling that nothing will calm them down have already taken hold.

The truth is that fear does not come from logic. It comes from the subconscious part of the mind, which reacts first and only reasons afterwards. This is why hearing “you are safe” or reading statistics rarely makes a difference in the moment.

That is where this programme helps. Together we work before you fly, combining my experience as a pilot with therapeutic tools that calm the nervous system. The aim is simple: so that when you step on board, you already feel steadier, more confident and able to enjoy the journey ahead.

What Our Clients Say

“Ted was very warm, insightful and helpful. He answered a series of questions of particular concern to my 6 yr old daughter who became very frightened of flying due to an uncomfortably turbulent flight. Ted detailed the processed involved in preparing for a flight, he gave step by step information on the noises we here and the movements of the plane and how turbulence is monitored and addressed, understanding these mechanics and processes does take the fear down a couple of notches, that plus giving us some concrete calming exercises to help keep my daughters flight or fight response at bay makes me feel more comfortable to try our next flight. Thank you Ted”

“Having let my fear of flying severely impact mine and my family’s life (I refused to fly for many years) it was time to finally sort it out. Ted is one of the most positive and friendly people you could meet and his sessions were a total breakthrough for me, utterly life changing. The amalgamation of the science/knowledge information from an experienced airline pilot (this greatly helped me) delving into how the brain/mind works along with coping strategies and the hypnotherapy sessions all worked together to create the perfect treatment for my fear of flying. I recently flew from London to Las Vegas and I can honestly say it would not have happened without Ted’s help. We have just booked another trip for later this year, totally attributable to the Confident Flyers course.”

“Had a wonderful session with Ted! The way he explained the entire flight process from start to finish, including each and every sound and physical sensations within the flight helped me understand everything that is normal about a flight. I went on a flight today and I was very much confident and at ease during takeoffs, which used to be the most scary part for me. And I was able to enjoy the overall experience by listening to music and stuff. Ted also taught me techniques to deal with general anxiety. He's not only an expert in his job but also a very kind person.”

“I returned home last evening, You wouldn't believe it, this was my first ever flight with literally 0 anxiety! It felt like I was getting in a car or a bus. I was totally calm even when the seat belts signs were switched on multiple times throughout because of turbulence, I just knew everything that's happening was normal and I could relax and enjoy the ride. Thank you so much for explaining to me about the entire process! It's like it has totally eliminated my fear and I was surprised myself.”

My Approach - How This Programme Helps With Aviophobia

When you understand both what is happening on the aircraft and what is happening in your mind, the fear begins to ease. My approach combines pilot knowledge with therapeutic tools so you feel supported every step of the way.

Step 1: Understanding

Together we explore both the realities of flying and the personal experiences that may have shaped your fear. As a pilot, I explain exactly what happens during take off, turbulence and landings, in clear and reassuring language. As a therapist, I help you make sense of past events or anxious thoughts. When the unknown becomes familiar, and past experiences are reframed, flying starts to feel less threatening.

Step 2: Calming The Mind & Body

Through clinical hypnotherapy and practical techniques, we gently retrain your natural responses. Instead of panic taking over, your nervous system begins to recognise flying as safe. This is not about suppressing fear, it is about creating a calmer, steadier baseline so your body and mind can work with you, not against you.

Step 3: Building Confidence

With practice and repetition, new patterns form in the brain and each flight strengthens your sense of calm. Flying shifts from something you dread to something you can manage, and in time even enjoy. This is about building lasting confidence, not simply getting through a single journey.

This is not about quick fixes or statistics. It is about creating real and lasting change, so that when you step onto your flight you feel calmer, steadier and more in control, ready to experience the freedom that flying brings.
